Fitting:
On the male patient the belt is fitted 2-3 cm under the nipples. On the female patient the belt is fitted directly under the beginning of the curve of the breasts. The belt is worn over special
underwear.
Tightening:
The belt is individually adjustable. When the patient moves, the belt is supposed to be so tightly fit that the patient is able to breath in short breathes. When resting and relaxing the patient is supposed to loosen the
belt. Duration:
As long as the patient is in pain, it is advisable to wear the belt. After approximately 2-4 weeks the patient could remove the belt during the hours he is asleep. Later on,
the patient is able to use the belt only, when moving and doing manual work. Removing and fitting the belt is made easy by the aid of a velcro-band (sticky plaster). The patient will quickly learn how tightly to fit the belt, and when to remove it, by his own degrees of
pain. Advantages:
The patient can carry on a normal life, and carry on his normal tasks. Data collected from a great number of patients have shown that not only patients with office jobs have been able to go back to work, also manual workers and industrial workers, have been able to return to work after 1-2 weeks. This of course depends on the injury. The rib-belt is optimally used for a maximum of 4 broken ribs. Extensive injuries, like multiple fractures, and 5 or more ribs broken, should naturally be under medical observation in
hospital.
The rib-belt is not washable, and therefore not reusable for other
patients.
